TYR Torque – Is Triathlon Ready?
During the Beijing Olympics countless diehard fans of men’s swimming were outraged. Why were men sporting what resembled women’s one piece swimsuits? Their musings were resolutely answered when men in these mysterious half-wetsuit/woman’s swimwear obliterated world records at a dashing pace. After the prodigious showing at Beijing, the Olympic council looked into the matter and outlawed all “swimskins”. Soon the Ironman Triathlon did the same. Wetsuits had been outlawed for several years, but suddenly the council restricted all “non-textile” swimsuits. The thinking behind this ban were that these suits manufactured an unusual advantage by those sporting them. These suits were uniformly buoyant, and diminished the friction amid the suit and the water, as well as constraining the swimmer into a forced aerodynamic position in response to the suit’s closeness around the body.
After the Ironman banishment many companies turned to the drawing board and thought how to assemble the boons of a swimskin while still respecting Ironman’s rules. One of the outstanding builders of triathlon gear, TYR Swimwear, made a revelation. This year TYR Swimwear released the TYR Torque Swimskin which made an immediate splash in advanced swimskin technology and is the most counted on and sworn on swimskin on the market. TYR Swimwear manufactures a swimskin for triathletes who are sincere about triathlon competition. TYR discarded neoprene and polyurethane from the planning because they were too buoyant and instead made the Torque Swimskin. The TYR Torque Swimskin is a woven suit produced out of a grainy parachute like linen. The material is unbelievably airy and lays contoured against every surface of the body. The material is naturally hydrophobic (meaning it whisks away water) and does not feature a stitch on it. The fabric is made with bonded linen which upgrades the suit’s aerodynamic potential and reduces weight and unnecessary material.
The TYR Torque Swimskin Pro takes on an extremely different consideration to swimskin manufacturing. Instead of being completely hydrophobic, the TYR Torque Swimskin Pro’s outer layer absorbs water (hydrophilic) to reach a reduced coefficient percentage of water to cloth. When the water is taken into the inner hydrophobic later it is brushed away near the junction of the skin, thus making the water to swirl like an internal air conditioner so the swimmer does not become exhausted. This can be critical in the grueling 2.4 mile swim.
The critical question is, does it work? Several tests have proven that by sporting a TYR Torque Swimskin the typical time of a swimmer was cut by 2.5 seconds for every 100 yards. This is tellingly speedier than an everyday swimsuit. A swimmer’s heart rate was lower and the stroke rate (the quantity of strokes per minute) was noticeably higher while donning TYR Swimwear, exclusively the TYR Torque Swimskin. After wearing the suit every realm of performance increased.
It is illuminating to follow the growth of swimsuit evolution. “Swimwear” for men rarely entered into public thinking until the 19th century, where swimming in the buff was taken over by awkward, substantial “bathing suits”.
