Why are Polaroid sunglasses, whuch are good for blocking glare, not recommended for viewing the sun during a solar eclipse? If Please provide a response using physical terms.
I think you refer to polarized sunglasses. What polarized glass does not take the light energy, and align it so that the off-axis light is blocked. (Very, very simplified explanation) This image does a decent job of showing it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wire-grid-polarizer.svg Now, why not use polarized lenses to observe a solar eclipse? Because they do nothing to block the harmful rays. They just cut the glare of the rays that you see off-axis.
