HDTV – Finding the Right LCD Wall Mounts
Many modern entertainment centers do not have a place to mount an HDTV using the stand that they generally come with. Even if they do, that is space that could be used for something else, such as more audio and video components, video games consoles, or other decorative type items. Besides, mounting an HDTV on the wall itself brings it up to eye level, and just plain looks better in most people’s opinion.
The idea of mounting that beautiful, expensive HDTV five feet in the air on sheer drywall is a bit unnerving, though. Images of two thousand dollar flat screen HDTVs falling to their death are not pleasant, to say the least, especially for those of us who cannot afford to just go out and buy another. Also, the backs of some HDTVs look completely different than others, and it’s not always easy, or even possible, to find a wall mount made specifically for a single model of TV. This is why it is so important to use the right wall mounts for your HDTV.
The first thing one should do when looking to purchase an HDTV wall mount is try to find one that matches their model exactly. The model can typically be found on the back of the television, and may be a mix of letters and numbers, usually including the size of the TV in it somewhere. If you find a string of numbers and letters that include “42″ in it, and you have a 42 inch television, then you can be pretty sure you’ve found the model number. A quick Google search of the number will give you an idea; if it brings up tons of results with people talking about your TV, or even a picture of your TV, then it is most assuredly the model number. There may be a longer string of letters and numbers associated with the model as well, but generally taking the shortest part of the model number that includes your television’s size will give the best results when searching for wall mounts.
Using that information, try searching for the model number plus the term “wall mount”. Alternatively, if you purchased the TV online, you may be able to just go straight to the website you bought the TV from and grab a wall mount made specifically for that TV. If you purchased the HDTV locally, try calling the store you bought it from and asking if they have a wall mount for that television. If all else fails, try contacting the manufacturer directly to see if they can sell and ship one to you. Their number is usually on the back of the television somewhere.
The very last resort is to buy a generic wall mount but only if you have to, if you do double check all measurements a couple of times. It’s important the weight capability is correct on the wall mount, after you mount it pull on the TV a bit to be sure it’s snug and tight. This is crucial because you don’t want the wall mount that’s for a lighter television, it could be a safety issue.
