Motorcycle Mount
2010

Obtain a perfectly clear, hiking for just about everything you could ask for, especially if your destination is a restored fire lookout which promises a breathtaking view of countless Cascade Peaks in the Puget Sound basin. The prospect of this panoramic view is what triggered my interest in this hike, but every time I intend to do, just time is not cooperating and I end up opting for a different track for a lake or a meadow, where the destination was not so dependent on having high visibility, but as I mentioned in messages previous save something for a better day in the Cascades may mean putting off for a while. If you can not pick up and go at will, you must take what you can get, so I finally decided I would not wait any longer, and when the next opportunity to go hiking rose, I committed myself to go to the summit of Mount Pilchuck rain or shine. Naturally, it rained. But I stuck to my plan and I'm happy I did.
The weather did not really take anything away from the experience. In fact, it was cool to reach the summit and see the silhouette of the search through the fog, and very comforting Once inside, the cold rain and clouds. Although we did not get the views we had hoped, or any other point of view all do, to be engulfed in fog added a sense of isolation at the top, and we felt the higher and more in the wild that we actually were.
Fire monitoring dates back to 1920 and thanks to a restoration effort by the Everett Chapter of climbers and a shared maintenance both them and the Washington State Parks, it is in exceptional condition for hikers to enjoy. You go to the shelter by a scale leads to a wrap-around porch. Inside there is a full history of the site, including old photographs showing the construction and renovation, copies Letters to the process of mapping original development, and maps and graphs showing the peaks that you are watching from every direction. When we arrived, we found three young backpackers who had all their provisions, with guitars and playing cards, for a night of camping inside. Account Given the heavy rain and blowing cold outside, I can not say that I was not jealous of them do not have to go down so quickly, but nevertheless I liked the strangeness of not being able to see anything beyond the surrounding summit ridge. You can say you're probably upstairs, the floor around you falls at different heights on all sides. Looking at the cards facing each direction, on behalf of all the surrounding peaks, I remember thinking how cool it was that it was all around us and we could not see.
Besides research, the remainder of the increase amounts to a pretty memorable experience. And getting there is easy too, because it is closer to hike the Mountain Loop Highway to the Seattle area. You turn off the road on Mount Pilchuck Road and travel 7 miles on Forest Road 42. Everything I said about the dangers of these roads may be forgotten when is 42, because it is one of the best maintained trails I've encountered, that it is paved for most courses and is almost too many potholes or narrow as you usually encounter. Except snow conditions, which on this particular road may last longer through the year and much of the summer, seven miles should go quickly and without too much trouble.
From the trailhead, you immediately start a steady increase so old forest and crossing several streams, the first using a sloppy passage formed by large boulders sitting in water. You are under the tree canopy for the first mile before taking a pretty cool rock garden which is an impressive height, and there you start climbing towards the east and travel into and out of open grasslands, magnificent hemlock mixture of boulders, wildflowers and slabs granite that form the face of the mountain. The climb is moderate and the trail well maintained throughout, and signposts appear frequently enough for you ensure the right direction as you enter the northern basin, just after Little Pilchuck at 1.6 mile mark.
The signs will alert more frequent, as you near the summit ridge, and you know you're close when the trail gets steeper for the final push. You have access a field of the last stone to go and sit at the top, right before you, is your destination. You'll have to make your own route and on the rocks which may be a bit slippery in the rain before reaching the ladder that will take you to the lookout. We see through that door The hot housing has been a welcome relief from cold clouds we walked in the last hour. It was an ideal place to enjoy our breakfast and discuss with our new friends who kept scratching at their guitars. After teaching them some card games to occupy them that night, we headed down the ladder and quickly covered the 2.8 mile trek back to the car, which was good considering the rain had really started to fall while we were at the top.
Looking through the pictures of this post has really made me want to return the next light I have. Experience was so memorable, even without the view that I can not wait to see what you feel to look out of the shelter on miles and miles of peaks. I'm definitely decided to bring a sleeping bag bag, again … and my guitar!
