Routing with a Garmin eTrex HCx?
I have a Garmin eTrex HCx that I would use on my bike. To give an example for what exactly the wrong use for Im planning a trip from Minnesota east of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota (meaning there will be hundreds of directions). I used Google Maps in the past before having a GPS route on roads me safely by using the bike. I am new to using a GPS for my road on a bike, so I wonder what other? (How to get the cards, how to make the roads with hundreds of points that easily transfer to the GPS) I currently have garmin city maps on a microSD card and have no idea what to do with anything. Thank you! -David
FYI: the rest of the name is important in some cases, when we speak of the eTrex family. Yours may be a Legend HCx and Vista HCx. I was very happy with the limited utility I have made using the bike route with my Vista HCx. I think that the purchase of maps on a microSD card from the mistake. If you Buy the DVD, you learn to use them in your computer and load the relevant parties to a microSD card. You can even load different parts maps (highway, topo, water) on the same card. If the card dies, you just load it to another. Loading the map on the computer? can use it to create routes. Can you find your waypoints on the base map that comes with mapsource? If so, simply click and mark them there. This is the easiest way. This is where the map is detailed in the computer help. Otherwise, you're stuck marking them on the map of the unit and transfer them to your computer or contact information from Google Maps and paste in the computer. Even if you do not plan to use the computer to connect points of interest in disarray, it is a good Backup your data. You can use the routing function in your GPS to connect the dots in a way, but it is tedious, especially if you scroll through hundreds of them. You may want to find a system of coded names such as finding specific topics easier. Garmin makes a point of interest creator you can use to add waypoints to your GPS POI and use the search function within it. You need to compare your card to reality to see if there are any hiccups in it horrible. I'm surprised they occur. Most bike paths are not yet on the cards. I find it boring and the only way I know around it is to mark the entry and exit to ignore them and routing beeps while on the runway. Obviously, it takes research beforehand to find and mark points of entry and exit. It is a community good in the Etrex Yahoo group that can help you more. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/etrex/
