why is cycle computer speed erratic? (cat eye rd200)?
i have a wired cat eye computer with cadence and speed sensor, the cadence works like a charm but i have been having problems with the speed sometimes it will be very erratic it will jump form 14-13-12-7-11mph and then it becomes worse under 5mph it will go to 0mph or 3.3mph? i dont know if its the way i have the magnet set up or what i would appreciate any help thank you
The senders for any computer can be affected by temperature. The way the sender works is this: there is a micro switch inside the sensor which closes when the magnet passes by. If the magnet is too far away, it won’t close the switch, or cold weather can make the switch slow to respond. Another possibility is an intermittent loss of contact somewhere in the wire, usually at one end or the other. If this problem usually occurs on bumpy roads, a wiring defect is possible. If in cold weather, suspect the sender. If it happens anytime, check to see if the magnet is close enough to the sender. Usually it has to pass within 5 mm of the indicator line on the sender.
