Primavera Sound Festival Barcelona 2011
Set inside the idyllic surroundings of Barcelona, next week from Wednesday 25th through to Sunday 29th May, Primavera Sound will play host to over 200 artists from around the world. Spread across numerous locations, Primavera A La Ciutat acts as a type of fringe event having already launched the festival two weeks ago. Spread across many venues including the Placa Universitat, Parc Central Del Poblenou and the Apolo, one of the crucial artists gracing its stage include Male Bonding, Darren Hayman & The Secondary Modern, Comet Gain and Tennis. The list of confirmed artists for this year’s Barcelona music festival is now complete and the names and details are as follows: Bradford Cox’s band Deerhunter will be one of the attractions of the festival after their recent successful tour in Spain. Moon Duo, Prince Rama, Maina Gallardo, Za! and La Debil further completes the list of the performances that will take place on the main stages of the Parc del Forum. On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of May there will be live acoustic concerts and on Monday the 23rd the label BCore will present Betunizer, Capsula and Bullitt.
The Poble Espanyol site meanwhile will see the likes of Caribou, BMX Bandits, and special performances from Echo & The Bunnymen and Mercury Rev playing sets entirely together with material from classic albums ‘Heaven Up Here’, ‘Crocodiles’ and ‘Deserter’s Songs’ respectively. Although only hosting its stage at the first and last days of the development, there’s good enough on display here to tempt probably the most ardent festivalgoer to its quaint courtyard. Activities will take place during the week prior and parallel to the main Barcelona event. Primavera al Parc will take place at the 27th, 28th and 2th of May. Sonny and the Sunsets, Comet Gain as well as the fresh and Onlys and Fleet Foxes are only some of the bands that will play on the two stages of the Parc Central on Poblenou.
There will be something for everyone, even for the little ones! The children’s activity minimsica will expand this year with a programme divided between the Parc del Frum and the Parc Central del Poblenou. The artists who will participate are: Mujeres, Me And The Bees, Za!, Viva Ben-Hur, An’mic, Manos De Topo, Evripidis And His Tragedies, Internet2 and Proyecto Personal.
If you are a festival lover, you will adore Primavera Sound in Barcelona. There are a host of popular cultural attractions for revelers traveling up to the 700ft summit of the city park – such as the magic fountain – which is a great feature in the blistering sun. As visitors climb up past the cascades and smaller fountains of Placa d Espanyol they can enjoy an ever improving view of Barcelona’s harbour. Once at the top of Placa d Espanyol visitors come to the beautifully ornate palau nacional which was built for the 1929 international exhibition and now houses the museum of art. Primavera Sound has a more alternative music scene when compared to Sonar or Benicassim and opens in Pablo Espanyol in Montjuic, Barcelona’s main park and cultural centre.
Meanwhile, the Parc Del Forum in Barcelona stands aloft because the focus of Primavera Sound. Situated within the Poble Nou district of the town, the sector incorporates nine different stages hosting an array of artists from the past (Pulp, Suicide, Public Image Limited), the current (Interpol, The National, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti) and the longer term (Kyst, Moon Duo, Prince Rama). Indeed, with the sort of wide selection of acts to make a choice from and rarely a duff addition in site, clashes are inevitable. Costa Daurada is a great place to visit, and its the perfect combination of sun and salvation . The breathtaking beach stretches south past Alicante round to the Costa del Sol in the south. It makes for a great family destination, and is also ideal if you want to relax away from the bustling city of Barcelona. The Costa Dorada (Gold coast) is home to the ancient city of Tarragona and Port Aventura for those with a taste for something more modern.

This theme park has a host of rollercoasters and an excellent waterpark, which is a godsend during the summer months. As the weather starts to warm up in May and June holidaymakers can also head for the region’s capital, Barcelona to enjoy the start of the festival season. Late May sees the first of many, most notably with Primavera Sound on the 25th, running to the 29th. The festival has a rather international flavour and has featured the likes of Portishead and primal scream in the past.
