Can I use a Garmin eTrex as a mapping device?

I have one of the original Garmin GPS and I have a computer cable for this somewhere. Does anyone know if I can use it as a navigation device?

You mean like with MS Streets & Trips or a mapping program to others? Yes you can. I'm sure the eTrex supports NMEA, which is the protocol used by GPS receivers to talk to computers. The only problem with the eTrex is that it uses a serial cable. Your computer may not have a serial port. If this happens, you can obtain a serial USB adapter.
